BT Connected World Art – “Plunged in a Stream”

This project combined the creative vision of BAFTA winning artists Langlands & Bell with BT’s cutting edge technology to produce an interactive installation in the Coudenberg Palace (the former Palace of Brussels) that revealed to visitors the hidden river Senne that runs through the city.

My role in this project was Lead Developer for the networked virtual world component. This was based on BT’s in-house TARA graphics engine technology (see below). I was responsible for working with the artists so that they could understand what could be achieved and also to incorporate new features to support their vision. A specific example of a new feature that was incorporated was support for video textures, various real-time video alpha masks and positional sound (all via DirectShow) within the TARA graphics engine.
